How to import users with dummy email addresses

When importing users who have invalid or missing email addresses, you can use dummy email addresses as placeholders. This allows you to import all user data while enabling service staff to update the email addresses later when users contact support.

Recommended dummy email format

The best practice is to use a format that combines a unique identifier with your domain:

• Format: CustomerNumber+dummy@yourdomain.com

• Example: 12345+dummy@company.com

This format works well because:

• It passes Unidy's email validation (which checks domain and format, not mailbox existence)

• The customer number makes it easy for service staff to identify and locate users

• The "+dummy" clearly indicates these are placeholder addresses

Alternative: Using email whitelist

You can also use the "Emails hosts whitelist" feature in your Mail settings to allow domains that would normally fail validation. This lets you import users with their original (invalid) email addresses intact.

Finding users with dummy emails

Service staff can locate users with dummy email addresses by:

• Searching by the dummy email address (which contains the customer number)

• Using the filter function to search by other data fields like first name, last name, or customer number

• Searching by any combination of available user data fields

Updating dummy email addresses

When a user contacts support, service staff can:

1. Locate the user account using the customer number in the dummy email

2. Update the email address to the user's valid email address

3. The user can then log in normally with their new email address

Users can also claim their pre-imported accounts using the "Internal Matching" functionality, where they provide specific data fields (like username, birth date, and last name) to match their existing account with a new valid email address.
